How can I navigate through the game (walkthrough)? A: The following walkthrough helps you to fulfill your mission. A: 1. Resolution with Win98 and WinME We already wrote in the readme.txt file that the same resolution for game and desktop screen can result in problems with AurynQuest. For this reason we'd like to remind you - if you have Win98, Win98SE or WinME - to always use a different resolution for AurynQuest than the active resolution for your desktop. Example: If the active screen resolution is 1024x768 then you should choose 800x600 as resolution for AurynQuest. 2. Problems with Kyro II based video boards With video boards that utilize the powerful Kyro II chip some customers experienced a wrong display that could make the game unusable. The reason is that with these boards the fog that AurynQuest uses for the Levels is drawn as a (nearly) solid color. Sorry, we do not have a patch for this yet. 3. Stopping when initializing the game Under certain circumstances it might happen that the game stops during the initialization routine. In that case the first three entries are highlighted. This means that the sound manager - which is the next entry in the list - cannot be initialized. The problem derives from erratic information which the game gets from the installed sound driver. Possible reasons are that there is no sound hardware installed or the installed sound driver is not fully compliant to DirectX 8. For most of the sound cards, the card vendors are offering updated drivers that solve this problem. If this is not the reason it might be that the sound driver is currently busy with a request from another application. For this reason we suppose to have all applications and background applications closed before starting AurynQuest. Most frequent background tasks are ICQ, Morpheus, RealAudio or similar. Please make sure that there are no concurrent tasks active that might block the sound driver. 4. Where are the save games? AurynQuest does not offer the possibility to save the actual state of the game as a save file. AurynQuest uses so called "respawn" points. If the player dies, he is put back at the same location of the last contacted respawn point. To make it easier, AurynQuest saves the status of each level if the user gathered at least 5 energy balls in this level. If you come back later to this level you will still enter at the standard level entry point but all levers, dialogs etc. are the way they were when you left the level. These information are saved in a file named "savegame.aqs". This is no save game file in the original meaning of the word. If you delete this file everything in the game will be reset to its original setting. 5. Where is level 5? Some players seem to have a problem finding the access to the "Ur-Werk" level. Simply follow the old lady and try the "soup". What does Auryn Quest have to do with "The Real Neverending Story"? A: This is a question of specific interest to those of you who have followed up the game magazines over the last years. In fact, discreet monsters managed to get a huge amount of coverage in the international games media even though they were a German newcomer. From 1998 until mid 2000 they worked on the ambitious project "The Real Neverending Story" which was stopped meanwhile. After several release postponements between 1999 and 2000 due to technical problems (remember, discreet monsters developed a 3D realtime authoring platform in parallel to the game), the project inevitably had to be stopped and the team which grew up to 60 people was released from work. The label discreet monsters and all its assets was acquired by Siggi Kögl (discreet monsters´ founder) who brought them into ATTACTION, founded in July 2001. ATTACTION´s team is mainly composed of people from the former discreet monsters. Thanks to the huge experience (the team did nearly all mistakes that can be made), it was possible to produce a new game based on "The Neverending Story" in only 6 months, which hopefully will find a lot of fans worldwide. In case that Auryn Quest, the first part of "The Neverending Story" pleases the gamers, discreet monsters will continue building up Fantasia.
